The 64th Engine Systems Symposium - Programme Director's Remarks

Engine Systems
Symposium

The 64th Edition.

16-17, March 2026,
Cranfield University, UK

Dr. Igie's comments on the
64th edition of our conference.

Dear Students and Guests,

The Engine Systems Symposium has long been an integral part of the MSc in Thermal Power and Propulsion, and it remains one of the distinctive features of our course. It represents far more than a conference; it is a culmination of technical reports, critical thinking, and applied research across the breadth of gas turbine and power system engineering.

This symposium provides a platform for our students to showcase the richness and depth of gas turbine technology, from intake and start systems, compressor bleed and variable geometry, anti-icing and sealing technologies, to control systems, cleaning strategies, filtration, and component design philosophies across engine families. It reflects a wide spectrum of propulsion and power applications across air, land, and sea. In doing so, it demonstrates not only technical competence but also the systems-level thinking required to design, operate, and improve complex power and propulsion systems.

The Thermal Power and Propulsion course remains one of the premier postgraduate courses globally in gas turbine engineering. Over the years, it has graduated exceptional engineers and leaders who now meaningfully contribute to industry, research, and society. Seeing our current cohort present work across such diverse and technically demanding areas is a reminder of the strength, continuity, and impact of this community.

This symposium embodies what the course stands for: technical excellence, analytical depth, and the confidence to contribute to the future of propulsion and power generation.

Kind regards,

Dr Uyioghosa Igie
Programme Director

We are looking forward to seeing you!
